Hope Des Moines E-News (Jan. 11, 2019)

Hello Hope Des Moines!

"To all who are thirsty I will give freely from the springs of the water of life." Revelation 21:6.

Are any of you tired, overwhelmed, stressed out, weary of the cold? I don’t think you’re alone. This time of year has a way of wearing on us and draining us of joy. The days are dark, and maybe your circumstances are as well. I’m guessing we could all use some refreshing. Not something that will last for a day or so, but something that will last. Good news! Jesus promises us in Revelation 21 that he’s offering us freely the water of life — a refreshment that won’t disappoint and can fill our souls!

This weekend after all services, we’ll offer open baptisms to anyone who feels led. For some, it will be their first time, for others, maybe God will call you to affirm your baptism from the past. Either way, all are welcome, just like the story of Pentecost in Acts 2. A great reminder that these amazing stories aren’t just history, they’re an opportunity for you to step into today!

If that’s not exciting enough, this past weekend following worship, we had 37 new members officially join our church family through the New Member Class! If you see some new faces around these next few weeks, be sure to welcome them!

The best part is, we’re just getting started! Our annual theme this year at Hope is “12 Books in 12 Months.” We’ll be diving deep into a new book of the Bible each month this year, offering us the continual refreshment of God’s Word not just on the weekend, but all throughout the week. We challenged you with three resolutions last weekend that are good for your soul and will not disappoint:

  • Make weekly worship a priority. The truth is, we schedule what’s important. And nothing could be more important than connecting with your Creator and hearing God’s Word. If you have students or kids, bring them and model it for them!
  • Find a group to study the Bible. We were created for community, and oftentimes, the Bible is best understood and studied with others. We have dozens of men’s, women’s, and couples groups, as well as the CORE class which starts Sunday, Jan. 27 focused on helping you understand the Bible even more!
  • Daily Quiet Time. Jesus spent time every day alone with God as a great model for us. Just 10 minutes or more a day can set the course for your day. Follow along with the daily Bible readings that are posted on our website and social media daily.

Take God up on this biblical challenge for 2019. You won’t regret it. Worship. Scripture. Intimacy with God. Refreshing through baptism. All available to you right now. We’ll see you this weekend church!

Jon
