As followers of Jesus Christ, we are called to reach out to our brothers and sisters in Christ – to be the face of Jesus to those who are sick, hungry, poor, or facing other desperate circumstances. In a very real way, the church of Jesus Christ has been given the task of carrying on his ministry, following his example into the lives of our neighbors, both here and abroad.

Bidwell RiversideBidwell Riverside Center
Bidwell Riverside Center envisions a future where no one lives in poverty and every person has the opportunity for a positive future. Through their Child Development Center, they provide all-day learning and care regardless of family income. Their Distribution Center provides food supplies and other necessities for over 14,500 individuals each year.

Booster PakBooster Pak
Booster Pak's mission is to help at-risk students in the West Des Moines Community School District reach their fullest potential by reducing childhood hunger and promoting health and wellness. They provide food and personal care products to nearly 700 preschool through high school aged students. Their programs are free and confidential to the students and families that participate.

CFUMChildren and Family Urban Movement (CFUM) 
The mission of CFUM is to create a community that supports the potential of children, youth, and families through educational success, healthy living, and community engagement.

CISSCentral Iowa Shelter and Services 
CISS provides free, temporary shelter and meals to homeless adults regardless of physical or emotional conditions. They have various programs that assist participants in their move toward self-sufficiency.

Convoy of HopeConvoy of Hope
Convoy of Hope is a faith-based, nonprofit organization with a driving passion to feed the world through children’s feeding initiatives, community outreaches and disaster response. More than 80 million people have been served throughout the world by Convoy of Hope. 

DELTADelta Emerging Leadership Academy (DELTA) 
DELTA is a three-year leadership training program for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors, with the goal of helping to raise up the next generation of Christian leaders. Using Jesus as the role model, DELTA seeks to inspire and equip young people to lead Christ-like change when they encounter situations that cry out in the world around them.

Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC) DMARC
DMARC has been at the forefront of food assistance work for over 40 years, helping people get the food they need when they need it. DMARC serves over 15,000 individuals on a monthly basis, many of whom are children. In addition to food assistance, DMARC supports a Housing Stability Fund and promotes interfaith dialogue to work together to meet the basic human needs in our community.

ElimElim Christian Fellowship
Elim Christian Fellowship is a multi-cultural, Bible-based, Spirit filled ministry engaged in spirit led worship, that touches the heart of God, preaches and teaches with integrity the Word of God, and equips the Saints to do the work of Jesus Christ to evangelize the World.

Family PromiseFamily Promise of Greater Des Moines 
Family Promise of Greater Des Moines (formerly Interfaith Hospitality Network-IHN) provides a way for the community to respond to the needs of homeless families with children. FCAFellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) 
FCA wants to see the world impacted for Jesus Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes. Their mission is to present to coaches and athletes, and all whom they influence, the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, serving Him in their relationships and in the fellowship of the church.

Freedom for YouthFreedom For Youth Ministries 
Freedom for Youth Ministries gives youth across Iowa hope through the love of Jesus Christ to break bondages, discover their God-given talents, and lead transformed lives. Their primary focus is reaching young people from kindergarten through 22-years-old with the gospel of Jesus Christ and making disciples. Their volunteer-driven programs also include tutoring, after-school activities, meals, job training, and residential services for post-high school students—all of which help young people stay in school, learn life skills, prepare for the workplace, and develop healthy relationships.

Hawthorn HillHawthorn Hill 

Hawthorn Hill helps families with children that are experiencing homelessness. They provide emergency shelter and supportive housing for families. They also offer supportive services to assist families with achieving financial independence through education, job training and employment.

Hope MinistriesHope Ministries 
Hope Ministries is a Christ-centered shelter and recovery program that works to rescue those who are homeless, hungry, abused or addicted by providing opportunities for hope, recovery and restoration through the love of Jesus Christ.

IMANI Family ChurchImani Family Church
iFamily Church is a non-denominational, spirit-filled church that strives to meet the spiritual needs of its diverse, ever-growing congregation. Serving people from the US, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, Cameroon, Nigeria, among others, they have a number of ways to serve God as one community.

Ingham Okoboji Luthern Bible CampIngham Okoboji Bible Camp
This is a Bible camp located in Northwest Iowa. Their mission is simple: to know Jesus Christ and to make Christ known to all. The camps allow children and families to discover God the Father and Creator through the beauty of creation, experiencing the Holy Spirit's renewing power through caring community, and receiving the life-giving good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ. That is what makes the camping ministry so impactful for every person in every generation.

InnerVisions HealthCareInnerVisions Health Care
InnerVisions HealthCare allows women and men to receive compassionate, non-judgmental, and truthful information, sexual integrity education, and free medical care, empowering them to make the most informed, life-affirming decisions for themselves and their families.

Joppa is a local volunteer-based nonprofit organization that helps homeless people survive, get housing and rebuild their lives. Their mission is to create a community of unconditional love, support and hope for the homeless, as they work together to end homelessness in Central Iowa. On the first Sunday of each month, Hope provides volunteers and donations to assist in Joppa’s outreach efforts. Wherever unsheltered people are living, in and around Des Moines, volunteers visit with them – building relationships, providing survival supplies and helping with specific needs. JCAJoshua Christian Academy
JCA believes urban children should have the opportunity to experience the benefit of a Christ-Centered K-12 education. Small class size, parent involvement and Christian values and dedicated staff prayerfully challenges and prepares children to be all they can be academically, spiritually, and socially for the global marketplace. 

LSILutheran Services in Iowa
Lutheran Services in Iowa responds to the love of Jesus Christ through compassionate services to children, families, and people with disabilities, the elderly and former refugees. LSI’s Refugee Community Services are there to help Iowa’s newest residents. They provide extended support and training for former refugees in Polk County through English classes, work readiness training, child care and parent education, elder services, and Global Greens, an urban agricultural program.

Meals for the Homeless
Lutheran Church of Hope members prepare and serve a meal on the fourth of each month at Central Iowa Shelter and Services (1420 Mulberry Street in Des Moines). The menu usually includes one warm dish, side dish, fruit, bread and dessert. They also provide milk, juice, cereal, coffee, sugar, peanut butter, etc. each month. Click here to sign up.

Meals from the HeartlandMeals from the Heartland 
Meals from the Heartland empowers people to save the starving. They lead teams of volunteers who package meals for delivery to malnourished people in Iowa, across the United States and around the world.

Primary Health CarePrimary Health Care (PHC) 
PHC is a nonprofit community not only dedicated to serving those with barriers to receiving care, but is the centralized intake for homeless support services. They offer a coordinated approach to addressing or resolving the needs of individuals and families experiencing homelessness. While completing an intake, clients complete an assessment, visit with a staff member and then may be assigned a case manager, referred to a shelter, or referred to other agencies for further assistance. 

RiversideRiverside Lutheran Bible Camp 
Riverside Lutheran Bible Camp serves youth, families and adults by providing opportunities to retreat from the routine and dive into knowing God’s love on a more intimate level.

Ruth HarborRuth Harbor 
Ruth Harbor is a Christ-centered home, providing housing, programs and services resulting in positive life change for young women who have experienced an unplanned pregnancy.

Sandwiches for the Shelter
A small team of volunteers prepare 150 sandwiches per week for the Central Iowa Shelter. Another small team goes to CISS weekly, to prepare and serve sack lunches, which include sandwiches, bags of chips, fruit or applesauce, bags of cookies, and bottled water (all individually wrapped, single serving). Single Parent ProvisionSingle Parent Provision
Single Parent Provision’s mission is to build relationships with single parent families and offer programs, services, events, and support that helps single parent families strengthen and thrive.  Single Mom’s Christmas Dinner and Single Dad’s Day.

Valley Disaster ReliefValley Disaster Relief
Valley Disaster Relief provides tree trimming, yard cleaning, tree removal, brush cleanup and small building removal to homeowners, churches and other nonprofits, as well as quick response to major storm damaged areas. WACSWaukee Area Christian Services (WACS) 
WACS provides physical and spiritual nurturing  to families on greater Des Moines’ west side, by  offering food and medical assistance to those struggling to make ends meet. Supported by area churches, businesses and community organizations, WACS includes a food pantry, free medical clinic, and community garden.

WDM Human ServicesWest Des Moines Human Services
West Des Moines Human Services has been compassionately helping people in need since 1979. Assistance is provided to help low–income, senior and disabled community members in emergency or crisis situations meet their basic living needs through a food and personals pantry, clothing closet, emergency financial assistance and much more. Volunteers can be a part of the solution by working in or donating to our clothing closet, helping individuals with their food selection in the food pantry, or simply making a financial contribution to the effort.
