Pastor Merv Thompson joined the Lutheran Church of Hope pastoral staff in 2003 after spending 35 years as a pastor in Minnesota. His longest tenure was as senior pastor of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Burnsville, a congregation of similiar size and mission as Hope, serving more than 21 years. He also served congregations in Minneapolis, Detroit Lakes, and Duluth.
Pastor Merv presently serves as a mentor to several Hope pastors and staff, as well as some pastors from the Des Moines area. He led the process of creating a vision for a new leadership center, which will be launched in 2008. He also writes a monthly Pastors Update. And he is writing several books, some of them containing sermons by Pastor Housholder.
Pastor Merv lives most of the month in Apple Valley, MN with his wife Jackie, spending a few days a month in Des Moines. They live within twenty minutes of their two children, Deanna (Neal) and Noel (Ann) and five incredible grandchildren--Linnea, Suriya, Annika, Evan, and Ethan. Pastor Merv also mentors some pastors in the Twin City area and is helping several congregations discern God's future vision.
