Nick Brannen is Hope’s Youth Pastor, focused on ministering to students throughout our community. In addition to other pastoral responsibilities, he leads Ignition, Hope’s ministry to high school students (grades 9-12). Nick has served on staff at Hope since 2015 and became an ordained Lutheran pastor in 2016.
Nick grew up in West Des Moines, Iowa, as a “Hope kid,” attending and serving since grade 5. That was the same year he met Michelle by the vending machine downstairs, who he would marry upstairs in the Chapel nearly 10 years later. Nick sensed God’s call to full-time pastoral ministry and seminary at a conference hosted by Hope in 2009. In pursuit of that call he later earned degrees from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa (2010, B.A., speech communication, Cum Laude) and Bethel Seminary in St. Paul, Minn. (2015, M. Div., emphasizing preaching and biblical languages, Summa Cum Laude). Nick has also served in two other churches in St. Paul, Minn., in preaching, discipleship and young adult ministry.
Nick loves to play guitar, bike, garden and cook. He dearly loves his wife, Michelle, and their son, Elliot.
