We talked about how we are in Holy Week. We are focusing on the things that happened and the reason we celebrate Easter. We know that Jesus died on the cross and rose again to give us all eternal life in heaven.
One of the things that happened before he died on the cross is that Jesus continued to teach people around him big lessons, even though he knew he would soon die. One of those lessons is very important to people of all ages. Read Luke 9:47-48. Jesus said everyone should be like a child! Then he said whoever is the least among you is the greatest.
Sometimes we think about a person who is the greatest being someone who has the most of something - the most money, or talent in a certain way. Jesus was teaching that you don’t have to have anything to be the greatest. To be kind and to treat other people well makes you the greatest.
God, thank you for this Holy Week. Thank you for teaching us that being humble makes us great. We pray we would know that it is more important than anything else the world tells us is important. Amen!
Jesus was teaching people who the greatest person could be because they had been arguing about which of them could be the greatest. We all have different opinions and things we like. That makes us unique!
Get to know each other even better by talking about what you think the greatest things are! Have fun debating why you think certain things are the greatest!
Ideas could be the greatest fruit, dessert, sport, color, athlete, etc.
