Hi Hope Ames!
You can’t stop Jesus.
In John 12, Jesus makes his way into Jerusalem on a donkey and most everyone is thrilled. Today, we call that triumphant entry Palm Sunday, and we’ll celebrate it this weekend at Hope.
But not everyone was celebrating on Palm Sunday….
Then the Pharisees said to each other, “There’s nothing we can do. Look, everyone has gone after [Jesus]!” (John 12:19)
The Pharisees were religious people who hated Jesus. They rightly predicted that they lacked the power to stop him, but it wouldn’t stop them from trying. Within five days, they put Jesus on trial, smothered his reputation, publicly beat him to the brink of death, and finally killed him. To the Pharisees surprise, it seemed like they stopped him.
But you can’t stop Jesus…
Let’s celebrate the rest of the story together throughout this Holy Week at Hope Ames. On Sunday morning, we’ll kick things off at 10:00 with a Palm Sunday party. On Thursday night at 7:00, our super gifted Pastoral Intern, Haley Schepers, will teach about Jesus’ command to love as he loved us, and we’ll also honor the children in our church who will be receiving their First Communion. I’m so looking forward to preaching on Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice for our sins at our Good Friday service on (you guessed it) Friday at 7:00 pm. As for Easter, and it’s the service that needs no introduction or hype. I’ll just let you know: you don’t want to miss it.
