Good morning, Hope!
Have you ever heard the saying that God uses repetition to keep things top of mind? God has been very repetitive with me in the last year, specifically using the verse above. So, did it come as any surprise that when I was assigned my week to write the E-News this summer, it would be the week where this verse is the weekend Bible reading? NOPE. No surprise, at all.
As some of you may know, I serve as President of the Waukee School Board. As some of you likely know, it’s been a tough year to be on the Waukee School Board. I truly wondered if I was going to be able to hold up under the scrutiny and division we experienced in December and January. It was tough. Really tough.
Through that period, I leaned heavily on my faith and the prayers of the people God has put in my life. Many of you who are reading this were praying (are praying) for me and for our community – and I know God heard (hears) those prayers. Thank you!
God continually brought the story of Esther to my mind over the past year. Friends and acquaintances would tell me I was president for a time such as this. A weekly Bible study I’m in focused on this section of the book of Esther a few months ago. And now, I’m writing the E-News on this verse.
I strive to be as obedient and bold as Esther. I am humbled to be connected to Esther’s story in even the smallest way. I pray for God to direct my every action, in every area of my life.
What is God repeating to you? What is he wanting to remind you about? Open your ears, eyes and heart to what he wants to tell you.
In just 10 days, we will swing our doors wide open to over 1,000 kids and adult volunteers for VBS: Built 4 God. It’s not too late to register your kids and it’s never too late to register to volunteer – we still need you! Also, starting this weekend, you will be able to pick up your child’s VBS T-shirt before and after services. Please note that T-shirt sizes are not guaranteed for registrations received after June 15, but we always do our best to get you a size that works for your child.
All volunteer T-shirts can be picked up at the Vacation Bible School Training on Wednesday, July 17 or Saturday, July 20.
I look forward to seeing you this weekend as we dig deeper into the story of Esther.
