COVID 19 Policies

The safety and health of our church family and community is of the utmost importance. This page was created to share information regarding COVID-19 updates, policies and procedures at Lutheran Church of Hope. Please know that as this pandemic continues to be fluid, all information is subject to change as new information, guidelines and mandates are released. If you have any questions, please email chris.gunnare@hopewdm.org.

What we are currently doing to limit exposure:

  • In addition to services being offered in person, all of Hope’s services in West Des Moines are available online at HopeOnline.tv.

  • Masks (covering both the mouth and nose) and social distancing are required by all those who enter a Hope building for worship, events, classes or programming.

  • Our facilities staff has enhanced their cleaning and sanitization efforts, including between weekend services.

  • Ample handwashing and sanitization stations are available throughout our buildings.

  • No offering baskets or bulletins are being passed at in-person services.

  • Pre-packaged communion kits are being distributed at services where communion takes place.

  • To ensure masks remain on while people are in the building, no food or beverage is being served at Hope buildings at this time.

  • Youth & Family ministry programming (HopeKids, PowerLife & Ignition) have added an online option for families.

  • We have temporarily shortened the service length to provide a safer environment for those worshiping in-person.

  • We have reduced the number of songs during the service, to limit the amount of time people are singing.

  • We have reduced the number of volunteers involved to lessen the amount of people in our building.

  • We have blocked off rows in the Worship Center and added additional rooms for seating throughout the building (including family rooms) to ensure families/individuals are spaced at least six feet apart.

  • For any class being held in-person, the same mask and social distancing policies for worship apply to these classes.

Please know we continue to monitor CDC and Iowa Department of Health recommendations, and will continue to make changes in order to do everything we can to provide as safe of an environment for all as we can. Thank you for your continued cooperation and understanding!
