My Offering

As followers of Jesus Christ, we are called to reach out to our brothers and sisters in Christ – to be the face of Jesus to those who are sick, hungry, poor, or facing other desperate circumstances. In a very real way, the church of Jesus Christ has been given the task of carrying on his ministry, following his example into the lives of our neighbors, both here and abroad.

Below, please find a list of Hope’s local mission partners and ways they serve our community, along with information on how you can get involved.

Serving the Homeless

Sundays with Joppa
On the first Sunday of each month, Hope provides volunteers and donations to assist in Joppa’s outreach efforts. Wherever unsheltered people are living, in and around Des Moines, volunteers visit with them – building relationships, providing survival supplies and helping with specific needs.

Sandwich Team
A small team of volunteers prepare 100 sandwiches per week for the Central Iowa Shelter. Another small team goes to CISS weekly, to prepare and serve sack lunches, which include sandwiches, bags of chips, fruit or applesauce, bags of cookies, or bottled water (all individually wrapped, single serving). Click here to sign up.

Shelter meal
Lutheran Church of Hope members prepare and serve a meal on the fourth of each month at Central Iowa Shelter and Services (1420 Mulberry Street in Des Moines). The menu usually includes one warm dish, side dish, fruit, bread and dessert. They also provide milk, juice, cereal, coffee, sugar, peanut butter, etc. each month.
