Jolo, WV (Convoy of Hope - Men's Ministry)

Team members will partner with Convoy of Hope to walk alongside Pr. Charlie in Jolo, WV, assisting in community development initiatives to aid the materially poorest region in West Virginia. The team will also focus on community-building and fellowship as well as outreach to elderly neighbors and local children.

From the Convoy of Hope Field Teams website: "Jolo is a remote area with no cell phone service and limited internet access. Despite its seclusion, Convoy of Hope’s Field Teams are committed to helping fight poverty and hopelessness in the area. Team members help the local church by serving widows, the underprivileged, children, and those impacted by opioid addiction. For many, this will be a cross-cultural experience that allows those from various walks of life to connect and learn from each other."

Changing COVID-19 measures may also impact the trip/cost; the Missions Department will make this information available on a case-by-case basis throughout the pre-trip process. Please be aware of this before applying!

FAQs

How do we get there?
The team will depart from Des Moines and travel west to Jolo, WV. Depending on team preference, the team can choose to stay a night in between or drive straight to Jolo. The Convoy of Hope Field Team leader will meet the team in Jolo.

Where do we stay?
Trip participants stay in a local church or motel.

What does the cost include?
The total cost covers airfare, food, and lodging. Passport and vaccination costs, food while travelling, and souvenirs are additional.

What travel documents are needed?
A driver’s license is necessary for travel.

What immunizations do I need?
No required immunizations.

When are payments due?
Three months before departure, 50% of the trip must be paid in full. One month before departure, the trip must be paid for in full.
