A proud Iowa farm girl, Caroline has been blessed to embrace several careers, a wonderful family, good friends and interesting hobbies. So far, she’s sandwiched over a decade of being a pastor at Hope between a career in medicine as an OB-GYN.
Caroline and her family joined Hope in 1993 when there were only 20 people at worship and has watched, amazed, as God has grown the church beyond anyone’s dreams. She served on the first Church Council as vice president and president and began teaching Bible classes in 1997. She joined staff in 2001, initially as administration director while pioneering a new pathway for becoming a pastoral leader in the ELCA.
Caroline is a graduate of Wartburg College, magna cum laude, with a bachelor’s in biology, earned her M.D. at the University of Iowa College of Medicine, completed her residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at Indiana University, and earned her MDiv, summa cum laude, at Bethel Theological Seminary.
A dedicated teacher, Caroline has taught both physicians in training and seminary students as well as many Bible classes at Hope and has a passion for helping people understand God’s story. Caroline is married to Tom, whom she met in medical school, and they have three bright and beautiful adult daughters. Caroline loves to read, garden, cook, cycle and have adventures … the greatest of which is living life to its fullest!
