Pastor Merv Thompson was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, but was raised primarily in Minnesota. He is a graduate of Concordia College and Luther Seminary, also receiving his Doctor of Ministry Degree at Luther. He served 35 years as a pastor in Minnesota, his longest tenure was at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Burnsville, Minnesota, 21 years. He also served congregations in Minneapolis, Detroit Lakes and Duluth.
Pastor Merv has been on the Lutheran Church of Hope staff since 2003. His primary role has been as a mentor and teacher. He also leads a task force that coordinates the Hope Leadership Conference, which is held each fall.
Merv and his wife Jackie live in Lakeville, Minnesota within 30 minutes of their two children and five grandchildren. Their daughter Deanna is a Professor of Religion at Hamline University, son-in-law Neal a health care attorney with Dorsey-Whitney Law Firm; their son Noel is a managing director at Travelers Insurance in St. Paul, and daughter-in-law Ann operates two Montessori Schools. Merv and Jackie have five grandchildren, four them of them in college, one at Luther, one at St. Thomas and two at St. Olaf.
